$10.35 Million dollar settlement for a blind and partially paralyzed man
A medical malpractice suit has been settled for $10.35 million. A man became blind and partially paralyzed due to a delayed diagnosis of a brain infection caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV). He had a history of multiple sclerosis and was living independently before this incident. In 2018 the patient went to the hospital with a severe headache. He was given treatments for migraines and discharged after 4 days without a correct diagnosis. Just over a day later, he was found at home in a confused state of mind. After being taken to another hospital he was misdiagnosed yet again and received inappropriate treatment. It was at the 3rd hospital that he was finally diagnosed properly with VZV, but by that time it was too late to prevent significant damage.
