A Marine is Baker Acted by mistake & commits suicide 6 months later

A Marine veteran sought help from a VA hospital in Gainesville, Florida for mental health issues. Instead of getting the voluntary treatment he had requested, he was involuntarily held under Florida’s Baker Act which is meant for people who are a danger to themselves or others. Six months after this incident he took his own life. An investigation by the VA Office of the Inspector General found an error in how the Baker Act was applied to the veteran. The VA states it is taking steps to correct these issues and ensure veterans’ care is improved.
