Baby dies shortly after birth following overuse of vacuum extractor

A family is suing Dr. Jay Matut and Greenwich Hospital after their baby died shortly after birth. The parents allege Dr. Matut was careless and ignored their concerns.

The mother’s pregnancy was described as normal with no issues. After going to the hospital to give birth she finally started pushing after 20 hours. Dr. Matut decided to use a vacuum extractor pump to help with the delivery, but he allegedly used it far too many times. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) says vacuums should only be used a few times in short increments to avoid issues.  It is alleged that Dr. Matut applied the extractor 15 times.  The mother requested a C-section however her request was denied by Dr. Matut.

When the baby was born in distress, he was transported to another hospital but unfortunately, he died within an hour of arrival.  The lawsuit is asking for money to cover lost wages, medical bills, and other expenses and for compensation for emotional pain for the family.
