Orlando Health announces it will buy five Alabama hospitals
Orlando Health, a large hospital/healthcare company in Central Florida, is buying a majority interest in five hospitals in Birmingham Alabama from Tenet Healthcare Corporation. These hospitals are known as Brookwood Baptist Health.
Orlando Health will pay about $910 million for most of Brookwood Baptist Health. These are the first hospitals that Orlando will own outside of Florida. Right now, Orlando Health has 17 hospitals in Florida in its network, including Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center; Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children; Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies; Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital; Orlando Health South Lake Hospital; Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital; Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital; Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute; Orlando Health Cancer Institute; Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
Brookwood Baptist Health has about 1,500 doctors who work with them. The Alabama hospitals are run with Christian beliefs. Orlando Health says this won’t change after they buy the hospitals. David Strong, the President and CEO of Orlando Health, said they want to make these Alabama hospitals the best in the state. The new group of hospitals will be called Baptist Health. They hope to finish the transaction later this year.
